Marine Cargo Insurance is an intrinsic part of international trade. Essentially, Marine Cargo insurance enables world trade to be undertaken between buyers and sellers in different countries. There is a framework within which international trade operates defining the responsibilities of both buyer and seller in respect of all aspects of the transaction, from arranging transportation to insuring the goods.

The Policy

Our Policies can be tailor-made to meet the client’s requirements to indemnify the owner of the goods against loss or damage which may have occurred as a result of a peril insured against during transit.

The Cover

Cover is provided in accordance with the Institute Clauses applicable to the risk (clauses which are widely used in international trade), specialist wordings also available in particular cases.

Additional Cover

Additional cover is available including cover for the following risks:

• Loading and unloading
• Contingent Financial Interest as either a Buyer or Seller
• Difference in Conditions
• Potential Duty or other similar levy
• Specialist consequential loss covers
• Frozen Cargo covers
• Rejection insurance.

Property Covered

Goods and/or merchandise which:

• Is the property of the Assured
• Is incidental to the Assured’s business
• Is the responsibility of or for which the Assured receives instructions to insure

Voyages Covered

Subject to any legislation which may impose restrictions on the insurance of goods, cover can be provided on a Worldwide basis.

Conveyances Covered

Cover can be provided for goods conveyed by all methods of transportation.

Policy Types

The Marine Cargo policy can be:

• A single voyage or short period cover
• An open cover with a declaration of sendings at agreed intervals
• An annual cover adjusted annually on declared sendings or turnover.

Certificates of Marine Insurance

When required Certificates of Marine Insurance can be provided as evidence of the existence of the Marine Cargo Insurance policy for banks or overseas buyers or consignees.

The Marine Cargo insurance service is backed by local and worldwide network of survey and claim settling service agents.
