Abu Dhabi hopeful of Thursday restart
Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing are hoping to have rejoined the race by Thursday morning at the latest, they have said today.
As work continues to ready their yacht Azzam, Media Crew Member Nick Dana sends this dispatch from the team camp."It's just another race," says Ben Davis, one of the three Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing's boat builders that have been called back to duty. "After we heard the news on Saturday evening, we knew we were in for a long couple days of work - I love it though, this is what the race is all about". Davis, along with 25+ other members of the Abu Dhabi shore team, as well as builders from Future Fibres, are now hoping to have the boat launched with a new rig and set back out to sea by Wednesday evening or early Thursday morning. Personally, I think Ben Davis nails it with this comment. This is exactly what the Volvo is all about. These kinds of incidents are what define teams, and demonstrate their dedication to this race. As soon as the yacht hit the dock, the entire team sprang into action. Everyone from the logistics to food management was on board lifting the broken bits of the old rig off. Sailors and shore team quickly put their heads together and made a game plan. "We give it all we got to get back out there. Anything less, and we are effectively quitting," skipper Ian Walker concluded just before the team split off to attack the job ahead.
